Jayne keen to repay the work of brain unit with charity walk

St Helens Star Reports:

JAYNE Hilton may be still recovering from the long term effects of a severe brain injury following a car crash but she will be stepping out this weekend for the care team that helped her.

The 38-year-old from Clock Face and her husband Ian will be taking part in the Grasmere Gallop, a 10k trek through the Lake District to raise cash for the specialist unit at Mossley Hill Hospital in Liverpool.

Jayne, who is a healthcare worker explained: “Following the accident my care was a write off and I suffered a severe brain injury. It affected my vision, the right side of my body and my short-term memory.

“I spent three months in The Walton Neuro Centre and then three months at Mossley Hill Hospital under Mersey Care. I realise how lucky I was to get this specialist care because there are not a lot of places like the brain injury rehabilitation service which provides the right type of care and support at the time you really need to start re-building your life.”

Jayne, also spoke publicly about the impact the accident had on her life at a recent brain injury awareness event in the city.

Mersey Care’s brain rehabilitation provides an inpatient service for adults needing rehabilitation following an acquired brain injury, often caused by road accidents and other trauma. It is the only health service of its kind in the country accredited by brain injury charity Headway.

The team helps patients improve cognitive skills, co-ordination, mobility and cope with mood and behavioural changes after a brain injury. The team is made up of a variety of disciplines from neuro-psychiatry, neuro-psychology, nursing, rehabilitation co-therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy and social work.
